Blog Post #9

While doing my Genius Project, I went through some difficulties trying to work on my project using the self directed cycle. First off, I had to coordinate times for my partner and I to meet up and complete steps we planned on finishing awhile ago. Also, there would be times when other projects had to be prioritized first instead of my genius project. These challenges and set backs showed me the difficult of trying to genius in something that you believe in. The following link takes you to my plan for this project: https://docs.google.com/a/summitps.org/document/d/1qN3KCXoLDkZie-UcJMki0z31xRVac-f8Ez8-jnSNg54/edit?usp=sharing

In order to completely be finished with my Genius Project, Daisy and I need to sell the rest of the awareness bracelets. We also have to make a PSA video that is acted out by us.

Some things that are stopping us from being completely finished are conflicts outside of school, prioritizing other projects instead and time management.

When the day for presentations come, Daisy and I will present what our idea was, our inquiry question and than present our video. I might be wrong about this but so far, this is our plan for presenting.

The feedback that I got on my project was clear and helpful. Alejandra told me what were they strengths and weaknesses of my project.

I didn't disagree with any of the feedback because I thought it was all helpful. For example, she told me if I put more detail in my plans, than it'd be more understandable. But she also said that some sentences were lengthy so that she could understand it.

Over all, receiving feedback was helpful because I got to see another persons perspective of my project and how I could improve.

Something that I couldn't control that made me change my plan was people. I can't control people so I can't control when they bring things in and I can't control their minds so they can remember to bring materials in on certain days. However, what did go well was the team work. My partner and I work very well together which means we get a lot done if we ever get behind.

1. The hardest part about starting my plan was knowing what I wanted to do. Also, sticking with my plan was difficult. At first, Daisy and I just wanted to make bracelets and film a video in order to create awareness on domestic violence. But than we realized that that wasn't enough so we searched and searched the web to think about other ideas that'll make people actually want to care about domestic violence. And we found some.

2. Because I ordered the charms for our bracelets late, a lot of our plan changed. We had to make up more time for the time lost.

What is the greatest challenge that you anticipate for your project? BLOG POST #4

The topic for my genius project is domestic violence and it's a real intense & difficult topic to research and also talk to people about. I'm worried that I won't reach my community the way I want to like maybe they won't even listen while I'm presenting so all my work will be for nothing. For now, I don't need help with anything besides staying on track and doing my work on time. Lastly, I think the most nerve-wracking thing about this project is the presenting part of the project because I'm not the best presenter and I don't want to make a fool of my partner and myself.

1. For my genius project proposal, my partner and I will be raising awareness on the subject of domestic violence. We don't have that many concrete ideas yet but from what we do have, we'll be creating a video and making bracelets to raise awareness about domestic violence. I'm most excited about creating the bracelets and giving them out to people because it gives me the opportunity to connect and talk to people about this important topic. In addition, I want to be able to talk to victims of domestic violence and see how it has effected their lives.

2. Currently, I am not on track. I haven't written anything down for my proposal because I haven't been managing my time wisely. But I know what to write down, I just haven't written them.

3. In order to meet Friday's proposal deadline, I'll make some time during school and after school to work with my partner so that we can finish the proposal. I'll also make some time for myself after school to do my part and finish as much work as possible.
